AND so, at last, we have a first win of 2023 to celebrate.
It was hard-fought. Gritty. The Reds dug in. Battled. Made it difficult for the opposition. Pissed off the home fans. Showed some nous. Stopped looking like a soft touch.
And it delighted the thousands supporting Liverpool in the Steve Bull Stand and beyond.
It featured an outstanding goal from an outstanding talent. Harvey Elliott, remember, is only 19 years old. And he’s just one game away from making it 50 appearances with a Liverbird upon his chest.
You’ve seen the goal. A cracker. But nearly as good was his tackle in front of the travelling Kop as Wolves pushed for an equaliser.
It summed up his night -- tenacious, tireless, a young man with a point to prove. And he underlined it and put a circle round it with a primal scream and a punch of the air. It was exactly the mood in that section of Molineux, too.
We wanted a reaction to the abysmal performance at Brighton. We got one. We wanted something to say it’s not over yet. We got it.
As usual, you won’t have to look far or listen much to find the needle of the knobheads to prick the positivity.
Only Wolves. Only The FA Cup. Top Reds. FSG. Etcetera and so on.
Undoubtedly, there are issues. Of course there is uncertainty. And yes, we need a signing or four. But right now, tonight, before, earlier at Wolverhampton Wanderers, our boys went out there and did us proud.
They won their battles, showed some heart, cheered up the manager and kept us in the hat.
Stefan Bajcetic was superb, and at times it seemed like both him and Elliott were inspiring the elder statesmen. There was certainly plenty of respect on show for the teenagers and both are knocking at the door to play at the weekend.
The dressing room and the journey home will have had some of the defiant delight on show as the Liverpool end poured onto the streets post match.
It was a big win. A vital victory. Potentially pivotal. And all that. Look at the back pages in the morning. Think of what they could have said. Exactly.
Liverpool can still win the FA Cup. Liverpool are still in the Champions League. And Liverpool have 20 games to play in the Premier League to tart up the table that currently shows ninth position.
While there is possibility there is hope. And while there is hope there is possibility.
It’s not over yet. So fucking get behind them and see what happens.
Up The Reds.
well said Gareth basically in a nutshell we support our team through the good the bad and the ugly
Bang on Gareth, a great capture of the situation. Back it up with a win on Sat and things start to look a lot brighter.
